Common sense, not ‘purely positive’
We take a balanced approach to dog training, which means we reward the dog for good behavior and correct the dog for unwanted behavior. Before we can teach your dog what to do, we have to first stop their shenanigans. A dog that’s barking its head off is not in a state to take direction. Stop the barking, and then we can start to have a conversation. We teach owners how to communicate with their dogs in a way that is both compassionate and effective.
All dogs in our programs (excluding puppies < 5 months) are trained on prong collars. Dogs completing our Board and Train Program are trained on prong collars and e-collars. We’re also huge advocates of crates. If you’re strongly against any of these tools, we may not be a good fit for each other. But if you’re serious about seeing past all the dog training misinformation out there and seeing results in your dog, we’re so excited to get you started!
Hi there! I’m Alexis, Lead Trainer at Skyline K9. I’ve always had a passion for animals, dating back to when I was four years old feeding stray kittens with my great grandmother. I adored my childhood dog, Max, and trained him to do fun tricks like play ‘red light green light’ and throw his arms up for a football ‘touchdown’. As a kid, I watched every dog training TV show and read every dog training book that I could get my hands on. As an adult, I pursued a degree in engineering but never lost my fascination with dog behavior. In 2021, I became a Certified Dog Trainer through CATCH Canine Training Academy. After that, I had the great fortune to learn from a handful of amazing local trainers who expanded my viewpoint and skillset to balanced methods. I most recently completed a shadow program with The Good Dog in New Orleans. I started Skyline K9 in 2022 as a way to help people bring harmony into their lives through effective human-canine communication.
